M. Marcella Besing, 79, of Peoria, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Peoria, with Monsignor Jason Gray Celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, also at St. Vincent de Paul. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
Marcella was born in Kansas City, MO on October 2, 1931, the daughter of George Henry and Marcella Marie (McGraw) O’Laughlin. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George T. O’Laughlin. She married Carroll E. Besing on December 19, 1953 at St. Peter’s Parish in Kansas City, MO. He survives.
She is also survived by her daughters, Dr. Joan Besing of Maplewood, NJ and Patricia (James, Jr.) Campion of Camp Grove; son, Michael Besing of Aurora, CO; and grandchildren, James Campion III, Daniel (Dr. Heather) Campion, John (Tiffany) Campion, Sara Campion, Brittany Besing and Meghan Besing.
Marcella was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Peoria, a member of the Spalding Council #427 Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary, Catholic Women’s League, Ladies Ancient Order of the Hibernians and Friends of Clonmel.
She was also active with Gems of the Prairie Quilters and volunteered for English as a Second Language and Literacy Volunteers of America, where she was honored as Volunteer of the Year.
Marcella loved quilting, traveling and collecting Waterford Crystal and Lladro’s porcelain. She was very social and most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, for helping others, for being very outgoing and for being extremely giving of herself.
Memorial contributions may be made in Marcella’s memory to Peoria Notre Dame High School or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria.

I spent several days in Washington DC site seeing with Marcella. She had been there before and showed me all of the sites. We had so much fun together she was so sweet and will certainly be missed.
